How to manage spam

Skool provides powerful moderation tools to help you keep your community clean and engaged. Follow these best practices to reduce spam and maintain a high-quality experience for your members.

Note: For implementation, please see "How to use plugins" helpdoc here

1. Turn OFF Instant Membership Approval

Manually approving new members helps prevent spam accounts from slipping through.

How? SETTINGS > Plugins > Instant membership approval OFF

2. Enable Membership Questions

Membership Questions allow you to review a new member’s bio, location, and profile picture before approving them. If you identify a spam account, you can ban them immediately so they can’t request to join again.

3. Require Level 2 or 3 for Posting

Locking posting at Level 2 or 3 helps ensure only engaged and real members can post, filtering out low-effort spam accounts.

How? SETTINGS > Plugins > Unlock posting at Level 2 or 3 ON

4. Require Level 2 or 3 for Chat Access

Spammers often target direct messages. Restricting chat access until Level 2 or 3 prevents new accounts from spamming your existing members.

How? SETTINGS > Plugins > Unlock chat at Level 2 or 3 ON

5. Encourage Members to "Report to Admins"

Remind your members that they can report posts or comments that are spam or violate your community guidelines. This helps your admins and moderators take action faster.

6. Use the "Ban and Delete Last 7 Days of Activity" Feature

If a spammer gets into your group and starts posting, you can ban them and delete all of their recent activity in one step. Bye bye, spammer 👋

7. Block & Report Chat Spam

If you receive any spam DMs, block and report the user to prevent further abuse.

8. Report User Profiles

If you catch a spammer, report their profile to our moderation team. This helps us take further action to prevent them from targeting other communities.

9. Monetize your Skool group

Charging even a small fee (as low as $1/year) to join your Skool group drastically reduces spam. Spam accounts usually avoid paid communities, so monetizing your group is one of the most effective ways to keep it high-quality and spam-free.
