How to troubleshoot a 403 error
A 403 Forbidden error means the server received the request but refused to allow access. If the error occurs only on Wi‑Fi, but the same website works on mobile data or another network, the issue is usually related to the Wi‑Fi network, router settings, public IP address, VPN/proxy, or a security filter—not the user’s account or device alone.
Because the issue is occurring at the network level, Skool Support cannot remove the restriction or change the Wi‑Fi network configuration. Please complete the troubleshooting steps below.
Before You Start
Confirm the issue is with a specific network, such as Wi-Fi.
- Disconnect from Wi‑Fi.
- Turn on mobile data or connect to another network.
- Open the same website or app.
- If it works outside the affected Wi‑Fi network, follow the troubleshooting steps below.
Troubleshooting Steps
1. Try a private browsing window
Open the website in a private or incognito browser window.
If the site works in private browsing, clear the cookies and cached data for that website in the normal browser. Also, temporarily disable browser extensions, especially ad blockers, privacy extensions, script blockers, antivirus browser protection, or coupon extensions.
2. Turn off VPNs and proxies
Disable any VPN, proxy, privacy relay, secure browsing feature, or DNS filtering app, then try again.
Some websites block requests coming from certain VPN, proxy, or privacy-routing IP addresses. If a VPN is required, try another server location.
3. Try another browser or device
Test the same website using:
- Another browser on the same device
- Another device connected to the same Wi‑Fi network
- Another Wi‑Fi network, if available
This helps determine whether the issue is limited to a single browser, a single device, or the entire network.
4. Restart the modem and router
Restart the home or office internet equipment:
- Unplug the modem and router.
- Wait at least 60 seconds.
- Plug in the modem first and wait until it is fully connected.
- Plug in the router and wait until the Wi‑Fi network is available.
- Reconnect the device to Wi‑Fi and try again.
Restarting may resolve a temporary connection issue and can sometimes result in a new public IP address.
5. Forget and reconnect to Wi‑Fi
On the affected device:
- Open Wi‑Fi settings.
- Select the current Wi‑Fi network.
- Choose Forget This Network.
- Reconnect using the Wi‑Fi password.
- Retry the website or app.
6. Check DNS and network filtering
A router, DNS service, parental control feature, ad blocker, or security filter may be blocking part of the website’s traffic.
Temporarily disable or review:
- Router parental controls
- Website or content filtering
- Ad-blocking features
- DNS filtering
- Antivirus web protection
- Firewall rules
- Network security or threat-protection settings
If permitted, try changing the device or router DNS settings to one of the following public DNS services:
| Provider | Primary DNS | Secondary DNS |
|---|---|---|
| Cloudflare | 1.1.1.1 | 1.0.0.1 |
| Google Public DNS | 8.8.8.8 | 8.8.4.4 |
After changing DNS settings, reconnect to Wi‑Fi or restart the device before testing again.
Note: In most cases, 5 and/or 6 should resolve the issue. If not, then you'd need to reach out to your ISP to whitelist the skool.com domain.
