How to report Skool income
Important:
You’ll get a 1099-K from Skool for tax year 2025 if you're a U.S. citizen or green card holder freelancing in the U.S. and fall into one of these two categories:
1. You meet the IRS federal threshold
- You earned $20,000 USD or more from Skool.
-
You had at least 200 transactions in 2025 (each payout you receive from Skool).
2. You meet other reporting conditions
Even if you don’t meet both the income and transaction thresholds above, you’ll still get a 1099-K if either of these applies:
- We withheld any U.S. federal taxes from your payments
-
You live in a state or district with a lower reporting threshold than the IRS. Currently, that includes: Arkansas, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Mississippi, Missouri, Montana, New Jersey, Vermont, Virginia, and Washington D.C. (This list can change, so it’s worth checking again closer to tax season.)
Not getting a form from us? You still need to report your income
Even if you don’t get a 1099-K, the IRS still expects you to report all your Skool income when you file your taxes.
What if I don’t get a Form 1099-K?
If you're a U.S. taxpayer and don't meet the criteria for getting a Form 1099-K, you may not receive a 1099-K. That’s normal — but remember, you’re still expected to report your income when you file taxes.
How to report Skool income?
Skool issues a payout invoice per transaction. Invoices have a total net amount in USD. You must sum all totals from your 2025 invoices and report them as income.
